The Supreme Administrative Court ruled today that the Education Ministry’s ‘Regulation 2’ regarding student’s hairstyles, issued in 1975 in line with ‘Announcement 132’ of the Revolutionary Council, is inappropriate and unconstitutional, because it infringes on students’ bodily autonomy.

Indonesian Court Issues Landmark Ruling in Favor of Religious Freedom

The ruling, which is effective immediately, states that the regulation, banning the wearing of a moustache or beard and requiring ear-length or three-sided shaved hairstyles for males and regarding the use of cosmetics by female students, is an infringement of the right to bodily autonomy.
