Thai Health Department Warns of Norovirus Outbreak during Festive Season

BANGKOK. Dec 17 (TNA) – The Department of Health has issued a warning about a potential norovirus outbreak during the upcoming festive season when gatherings and travel are common.

Norovirus NOT Found in Ice and Water Factories in Phuket

Dr. Thiti Sawaengtham, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Health, highlighted the recent norovirus outbreak affecting over 1,400 students and staff at two schools in Klaeng district, Rayong province.

Norovirus, often associated with outbreaks of gastroenteritis, is highly contagious and can spread rapidly in schools, restaurants, hospitals, childcare facilities, and on cruise ships, particularly during colder months. The virus can be transmitted through contaminated food, water, and surfaces, as well as through direct contact with infected individuals.
