In a desperate bid to free himself from the bear’s powerful jaws and fearing for his life, the man resorted to using a knife to sever his own arm. Witnesses to the harrowing scene rushed to provide immediate assistance before transporting him to Chiang Dao Hospital. His right arm suffered extensive damage from the elbow downward, necessitating urgent surgical intervention at a private hospital in Chiang Mai Muang district. Tragically, the severed part of his arm was discovered in a shredded state.
Reports indicate that the Asiatic black bear had been under the foundation’s legal care, having initially been in the custody of Doi Pha Daeng National Park in Chiang Dao since becoming lost in 2013. Due to certain constraints, the foundation assumed responsibility for the bear’s welfare and upkeep.
