Holiday Traffic Jams Hit Bangkok’s Northern Routes

BANGKOK (NNT) – Bangkok witnessed severe traffic congestion on its main roads leading to the North and Northeast on Friday. The mass exodus of holidaymakers from the city caused heavy traffic, particularly in the provinces of Ayutthaya and Nakhon Sawan.

In Ayutthaya, congestion was notable at kilometer marker 50 on Phahon Yothin Road in the Bang Pa-in district around 9 am, as numerous vehicles headed north. This traffic surge continued throughout the day, with major roads to the North, especially in Nakhon Sawan, being jam-packed. The section of Phahon Yothin Road from Phayuhakhiri district to Nakhon Sawan’s capital district saw extremely heavy traffic.

The Transport Ministry has implemented measures to alleviate the congestion, including waiving fees on certain motorways. This includes a 77-kilometer section of Motorway 6 that connects Bang Pa-in in Ayutthaya with Nakhon Ratchasima.
