Wat Phra That Choeng Chum in Sakon Nakhon

Wat Phra That Choeng Chum (วัดพระธาตุเชิงชุมวรวิหาร) is a ancient temple located in the Northeastern province of Sakon Nakhon, very close to the Nong Han Lake. The monastery is considered a sacred place for people of the province. Since 95% of the Thai people are practitioners of Theravada Buddhism, devotees across the province flock to this temple to pray and to offer alms to monks, especially during religious public holidays.

This beautiful Buddhist temple of rectangular shape has a distinctive white Lao-style chedi a with a height of 24 meters, made of bricks and mortar and a Lanna style viharn with multi-tiered roof.

Wat Phra That Choeng Chum Woraviharn, originally a 10th century Khmer monastery, was built in the 18th century during the Ayutthaya Kingdom. It hosts a beautiful Buddha image crafted in the 13th century called Luang Phor Phra Ong Saen.
