Nearly 100,000 Thais have been infected with Emphysema

Bangkok, 21 November 2013 (NNT) – Around 100,000 people in Thailand have been infected with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, generally known as emphysema.

Emphysema is a lung disease that makes it hard for a person to breathe. As many as 100,000 people in Thailand have suffered from this disease, according to the Public Health Ministry.

Public Health Minister Dr. Pradit Sintavanarong said the major cause of emphysema is smoking and most of the patients are over 40 years of age.
