High wave drowns Chinese tourist in Phuket

PHUKET, Jun 19 – A Chinese tourist was carried to his death by drowning when he was hit by a large wave near an island off this southern resort province on Tuesday, according to the authorities.

Police said Ran Li, 28, was swimming near Racha Yai island when a three-metre-high wave carried him further out from shore. He was accompanied by several friends, all of whom survived.
