Buddhists plea with UN to prevent mining in Afghanistan

Buddhist organisations on Tuesday submitted a plea to the UN and Unesco to help save the ancient Buddhist remains at Afghanistan’s Mes Aynak, where mining for cooper is scheduled to begin next month.
Some 200 protesters submitted the plea to the UN via a representative before moving to the Unesco headquarters on Sukhumvit Road.
