BANGKOK, 12 April 2012 (NNT) – Suvarnabhumi Airport, on Wednesday, launched the automatic passport checking system, which will facilitate a faster passenger flow through immigration channels.
According to Immigration Police Chief Pol Lt Gen Wiboon Bangthamai, the Immigration Bureau has started utilizing the automatic passport checking service in order to cut down the time needed to manually check each and every passport, which is time-consuming for both immigration officers and passengers.
Initially, 16 automatic channels will be available for Thai passport holders in the departure and arrival areas. In the future, the service will expand to other airports under the Immigration Division 2’s authority, including Phuket Airport, Hat Yai Airport and Chiang Mai Airport, with the objective of reducing passenger congestion, number of staff as well as immigration procedures, given that the automatic service takeห less than 20 seconds to complete.
Meanwhile, normal immigration service is still available at Suvarnabhumi Airport. More officers have been assigned to station at immigration channels, while female police officers are on hand to give advice to passengers for their convenience in passing through the airport’s immigration.
