Thai Constitution Court president Chat refuses to step down over clip controversy

Thai Constitution Court Head Claims Impartiality

Constitution Court president Chat Cholaworn has refused to step down over a video clip scandal in which his former secretary plays a primary role.

Former Thai Rak Thai leader Chaturon Chaisaeng called on Mr Chat to resign over his office’s alleged involvement in the scandal, but the court president said he saw no reason to do so.

Mr Chat said the court would remain independent in adjudicating the case in which the Democrat Party stands accused of misusing a 29 million baht election grant.

Mr Chat’s secretary Pasit Sakdanarong was dismissed from his post last Monday after video clips were made public and posted on YouTube allegedly related to the case against the ruling party.
