Suspected islamic militants kill four in southern Thailand

Pattani, Thailand – Suspected separatist militants killed one soldier and three civilians in a series of attacks in Thailand’s troubled deep south, security officials said Wednesday.

Troops were searching a house on Wednesday afternoon in Sri Sakon district of Narathiwat province, 800 kilometres south of Bangkok, when a bomb went off, killing one soldier instantly and critically wounding another.

Around the same time a group of 10 men riding in two pickup trucks and two motorcycles attacked a military checkpoint with assault rifles and grenades in Narathiwat’s Rue Hoh district.
