Thai Cabinet Oks TOT’s Planned THB19.98 Billion 3G Network

BANGKOK -(Dow Jones)- State-owned telecom firm TOT PCL’s planned THB19.98 billion ($653 million) investment in a third-generation mobile phone network has been approved by the Thai Cabinet, Information and Communication Technology Minister Chuti Krairiksh said Tuesday.

The construction of the 3G network, expected to take around six months, will support the government’s policy of greater broadband accessibility, Chuti told reporters after the weekly Cabinet meeting.

TOT already owns 1900 megahertz frequency spectrum that it can use to provide 3G mobile services.
