Thai Court orders extradition of Russian arms dealer to the US within 3 months

BANGKOK, 20 August 2010 (NNT) – Thailand’s Appeal Court on Friday ordered the extradition of suspected Russian arms smuggler, Viktor Bout, to the US.

Mr Bout, a 43-year-old former Soviet air force officer, is known as one of the world’s leading arms dealers. He was arrested in Bangkok in 2008 for allegedly supplying weapons for the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), a major cocaine producer, in which the money gained from trading cocaine were used against the Colombian Government and the United States. The Bangkok Criminal Court then rejected the extradition request by the US in 2009.
