At least four dead in Thai helicopter crash: officials

BANGKOK, Aug 18, 2010 (AFP) – At least four people died after a government helicopter carrying senior civil servants crashed in a remote part of northern Thailand in bad weather, officials said Wednesday.

The helicopter, with five people on board including the permanent secretary for natural resources and environment, Saksit Tridech, vanished from radar screens on Tuesday after taking off from Phitsanulok province.

The wreckage was discovered early Wednesday in the jungle of Nan province after an operation involving four army and air force helicopters as well as a ground search.
