The connection through Hong Kong is strategically significant, allowing seamless transfers for passengers from United’s existing San Francisco-Hong Kong service and providing access to over 75 destinations across the Americas through its West Coast hubs. At a welcome ceremony for the inaugural flight, Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool highlighted the service as a milestone in U.S.-Thailand relations, emphasizing its role in strengthening tourism and economic ties.
THAI Resumes Flights to Europe Today
United now stands as the only U.S. carrier serving Bangkok directly, a move that underscores the airline’s confidence in Thailand’s appeal to the long-haul travel market. The resumption comes amid growing North American interest in Southeast Asia, evidenced by Air Canada’s non-stop Vancouver-Bangkok service and Thailand’s prominent featuring in the upcoming season of the popular series “The White Lotus.” Official data shows 808,288 American visitors had arrived in Thailand by October 24 this year—a 5% increase over the same period in 2023—with the Tourism Authority forecasting a total of 1.09 million American travelers generating an estimated 62 billion baht in revenue by year’s end.
