Thai Navy Chief Orders Border Reclamation, Confirms Wall Construction
CHANTHABURI – The Royal Thai Navy has been directed to reclaim all Thai territory along the Cambodian border in Chanthaburi and Trat provinces, with the navy chief vowing not to cede “even an inch” of land. The announcement was accompanied by confirmation that construction of a border fence in a specific section will proceed, a project approved by the national security council and agreed upon by both nations.
Thai Supreme Commander Backs Border Fence Construction Amid Tensions with Cambodia
Royal Thai Navy spokesperson Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachaiphan stated that the fence between boundary markers 52 and 58 is a crucial security measure designed to combat cross-border crime, drug trafficking, and illegal immigration. The move comes as authorities maintain a state of high alert along the frontier. The Burapha Force is conducting ongoing drone surveillance in the area, monitoring the situation ahead of an October 10 deadline set by the Sa Kaeo governor for Cambodian nationals encroaching on Thai territory to depart.

Separately, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the potential for foreign mediation in the ongoing border dispute. While acknowledging the good intentions of international figures such as former U.S. President Donald Trump, he firmly stated that any talks would be contingent upon Cambodia first meeting four strict preconditions. These include the withdrawal of all military forces, the removal of landmines and weapons, the departure of all encroachers, and verification that all threats to Thailand have been eliminated. Officials reported that despite the heightened alert, no mass concentrations of people were observed in the contested areas yesterday.
