Foreign Man Seriously Injured After Leaping From Footbridge in Bangkok
BANGKOK – A foreign national sustained critical injuries after jumping from a pedestrian footbridge on Sri Ayutthaya Road in Bangkok’s Ratchathewi district on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred in front of the Sri Ayutthaya building near the Phaya Thai intersection, causing significant traffic disruption and prompting an urgent multi-agency emergency response.

Police from Phaya Thai Station were alerted to the situation after receiving reports of a shirtless foreign man, estimated to be between 55 and 60 years old and wearing only elephant-patterned trousers and socks, behaving erratically on the footbridge. Rescue teams from the Phaya Thai Fire and Rescue Station, Bantadthong volunteers, and the Poh Teck Tung Foundation rushed to the scene with air cushions in an effort to prevent serious injury.
Despite attempts by officers to negotiate and calm the individual, the man leaped from the bridge at 3:43 p.m. Witnesses reported that he struck the road surface head-first. He lost consciousness immediately and was found to have severe head injuries. Rescue volunteers administered CPR at the scene before urgently transporting him to Phyathai 1 Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

Police confirmed that no identification documents were found on the man, complicating efforts to notify next of kin.
