Ukrainian Tourist Arrested at Phuket Airport Over Vandalism Rampage

Phuket International Airport, May 10 — A fiery confrontation over a rental deposit turned into an international incident this morning as immigration officers at Phuket’s main airport stopped a 20-year-old Ukrainian woman from fleeing the country, following her alleged destruction of a high-end condominium.

After being denied a 15,000 THB security deposit refund, the tourist reportedly went on a rampage through the Patong condominium, smashing furniture, appliances, and walls in what witnesses described as “a complete meltdown.”

The property owner insists the deposit withholding was justified, explaining the woman was not the official leaseholder and had violated subletting terms. “The contract clearly states no refunds for unauthorized occupants,” he told police.

During questioning, the woman admitted to the vandalism but claimed emotional distress over the financial loss. “They stole my money,” she allegedly told officers, though she could produce no written rental agreement.

Authorities have slapped the tourist with multiple charges, including property damage (Thai Penal Code Section 358), breach of contract (if fraud is proven), and possible visa violation for overstaying (under investigation).

The condo owner estimates repairs will exceed 75,000 THB and has vowed to pursue civil compensation. “This could’ve been avoided with proper paperwork,” noted a Phuket rental association rep, urging travelers to only sign registered contracts.

The Ukrainian faces court proceedings next week, with her embassy monitoring the case. Meanwhile, the damaged condo unit remains uninhabitable, its walls scarred with what cleaners describe as “fist marks and broken glass everywhere.”

Traveler Advisory: Always photograph rental conditions upon arrival and insist on stamped contracts.
