Bangkok Furniture Factory Fire Contained After 40-Hour Battle
Lat Krabang, Bangkok – Firefighters have finally brought under control a raging inferno that engulfed a furniture factory in Lat Krabang district, following an exhausting 40-hour battle against the flames. The massive blaze, which broke out on Sunday afternoon along Chalongkrung Soi 55, was finally subdued at 7am this morning, though authorities warn the aftermath presents new dangers.

Initial investigations suggest the fire may have been sparked by carelessly discarded cigarette butts, though officials stress the exact cause remains under scrutiny. As thick, acrid smoke continued to billow from the charred remains of the factory, concerns grew over potential toxic contamination. The black plumes that darkened the sky for nearly two days may carry hazardous chemicals, prompting warnings for residents to avoid the area.
Adding to the environmental risks, the vast quantities of water used to douse the flames may have mixed with toxic substances from the factory, raising fears of contaminated runoff seeping into local water sources. Industry Minister Akanat Promphan confirmed that a specialized mobile unit from the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand has been deployed to assess air quality and check for chemical leaks.

Further complicating matters, an initial inspection revealed that the facility was officially registered as a stockpile warehouse. If investigators confirm it was being used for manufacturing without proper authorization, the owners could face legal repercussions for violating zoning laws.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has issued urgent advisories, urging residents to steer clear of the vicinity due to lingering poor air quality. Nearby communities have reported respiratory discomfort, with some families opting to temporarily relocate until safety assessments are complete.
