Miraculous Escape for Teen Girl as Boyfriend Gunned Down in Phatthalung Ambush

A romantic evening turned to tragedy when masked assailants executed a 20-year-old man and nearly killed his teenage girlfriend in a brazen roadside attack that played out like a nightmare along the Phatthalung-Trang highway late Thursday night.

Wife arrested in Bangkok, husband survived shooting, then died mysteriously

The victim, Natthawat, was returning from a festival at Phu Khao Chiak mountain with his 17-year-old girlfriend when their lives were shattered by four masked men who emerged from a parked white pickup truck around 10 PM. Without provocation, one attacker fired a shotgun at point-blank range, striking the young man in the neck, shoulder, arm and torso as he sat astride his Honda Wave motorcycle.

In a twist that defied logic, the killers then pressed the same weapon against the terrified girl’s forehead – only for the gun to mysteriously jam. “I begged for my life with my hands in a wai,” the traumatized survivor told police through tears, describing how the assailants instead ransacked her boyfriend’s bag, stealing his handgun before escaping with two female accomplices in the waiting vehicle.

Forensic teams recovered a 12-gauge shotgun shell at the grisly scene where Natthawat’s body lay draped over his fallen bike, his shoulder bag still containing cash and mobile phones. Investigators are scouring CCTV footage and pursuing leads suggesting the attack may have been a targeted hit, possibly motivated by a personal vendetta.

The cold-blooded nature of the killing has rattled this normally tranquil southern province, with locals questioning how festival-goers could be hunted down in such a brutal fashion. As police hunt for the killers, the miraculous survival of one victim offers scant comfort to a grieving family – and serves as a grim reminder of the random violence that can strike even young lovers on a moonlit ride home.
