Japanese Fukushima-2 NPP Stops Cooling System of Spent Nuclear Fuel After Quake

Japanese Fukushima-2 nuclear power plant (NPP) on Tuesday stopped the cooling system of the power plant’s reservoir with spent nuclear fuel after a powerful earthquake struck off the coast of the Fukushima region, local media reported.

TOKYO (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, the Japan Meteorological Agency reported about the 7.3-magnitude earthquake that hit the hit eastern part of the country’s coast near Fukushima. At the same time media reported that the activities of the NPP had not been affected by the tremor.
