Hundreds injured in Taiwan Formosa Fun Coast water park blast
On 27 June 2015, flammable starch-based powder exploded at Formosa Fun Coast, a recreational water park in New Taipei, Taiwan. By the following day the injury list from the explosion was at least 498 people, with 184 in intensive care. As of 29 June 2015, one fatality was attributed to the explosion.
The dust explosion, which occurred on a music stage during a “Color Play Asia” (彩色派對 Cǎisè Pàiduì) party, has been called the “worst incident of mass injury (ever) in New Taipei”. The powder was identified, by some sources, as coloured corn starch.
