Election Commission and Government agree on election date of July 20

BANGKOK, 30 April 2014 (NNT) – The Election Commission (EC) has reached a consensus with the government to organize the general election on July 20 while police are gearing up for the duty of protecting polling stations.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra today led relevant ministers and permanent secretaries as well as Deputy National Police Chief Worapong Chewpreecha to meet with EC Chairman Supachai Somcharoen and the five election commissioners on issues surrounding the new general election. Topping the agenda was the setting of the poll date, for which three options were earlier proposed by the EC: July 20, August 17 and September 14.
