Chalerm advocates idea to make southern border provinces Special Administrative Zone

BANGKOK, 7 September 2012 (NNT) – Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubumrung has proposed to turn Thailand’s southern border provinces into a special administrative zone, in hopes of reducing violence in the region.

Talking to the press on Friday, Police Captain Chalerm said that he had received confidential information about wrongdoers in various violent incidents in the deep South and would forward it to the would-be Police Commissioner-General Pol.Gen.Adul Sangsingkeo for consideration. Pol.Gen Adul will succeed Pol.Gen.Preophan Dhamapong as police chief on 1 October this year.
