High tide to cause water surge in Bangkok today

BANGKOK, 6 October 2011 (NNT) – Thailand’s Operational Centre for the Prevention and Solving of Flood Problems has revealed that the high tide would occur at 15.49 hrs today; but expected no overflow in parts of Bangkok that are behind the flood barriers.

According to the Centre, the situation will continue to be monitored despite the assurance that the barriers could block the inundation up to 2.5 meters. Districts of Bangkok at risk are Min Buri, Nongjok, Lat Krabang and Khlong Sam Wa; some of which are already waterlogged, given they are outside the protective barriers.

Bangkok residents can now call Hotline 1555 which is operated around the clock, or call 02-2248-5115 or visit www.dds.bangkok.go.th for more updates on the flooding situation.
