Hacker of Yingluck’s Twitter account identified and arrested

BANGKOK, 5 October 2011 (NNT) – Information and Communication Technology Minister Anudit Nakornthap has identified the person who hacked the twitter account of Thai PM Yingluck Shinawatra.

The hacker is identified as Ekawit Thongdiworakul, a 20-year old student from a leading university. Mr. Anudit confirmed that the man was indeed the wrong doer, not a scapegoat. The ICT Minister said the hacker managed to break into the twitter account alone. However, the ICT Ministry plans to give the man a chance to redeem himself, by recruiting him in its anti-hacking team.

A person found having hacked into a computer system faces a fine of 100,000 THB or a 5- year jail term or both.
