Thailand warns of floods in Northeast, East and central regions
BANGKOK, 11 September 2011 (NNT) – The flood situation in Thailand is still far from over as the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has warned residents in disaster-prone areas to brace for flash floods and landslides during this period.
Thunderstorms are expected in the northeast, the central and the eastern regions. Residents in flood-prone areas in Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok and Loei provinces are strongly advised to keep abreast of the weather reports during September 10-12.
Flooding has so far claimed 72 lives and affected nearly 500,000 people in 14 provinces. More than three million rai of farmland is under water.
Bangkok and nearby provinces have also been warned of inundation during this period.
