Pattani Officials step up security measures in Southern Thailand

PATTANI, 25 September 2011 (NNT) – Security Authorities in Pattani Province have stepped up security measures especially at important landmarks, and community zones after they received leads on a possible bombing in the area.

Various checkpoints have been set-up on major roads leading to the Mueang District, to search all incoming vehicles. Leads have indicated another attack with bombs planted in 4 cars, 2 motorcycles, and a pickup truck. Various government buildings, entertainment venues, and community zones are said to be targeted.

Authorities have requested residents in the area to report anything suspicious. In a related matter, last night, an unknown number of assailants shot rounds of M79 grenades into a local police station. However no injuries have been reported.
