Thai authorities working on southern unrest: Suthep

BANGKOK, 9 May 2011 (NNT) – Deputy Prime Minister in charge of security affairs Suthep Thaugsuban has insisted on using the existing guideline in dealing with the southern unrest.

The deputy prime minister admitted that the southern insurgency is persistent, and unrest perpetrators are trying to ambush and hurt local people in an effort to instigate violence and terror in the area.

In order to solve the problem, Mr Suthep stressed that local residents cooperation is essential. He asked them to avoid travelling or using roads banned by security officers, and allowing the officials to search and investigate at checkpoints.
