Royal rainmaking fleet takes off to ease drought in Northern Thailand

BANGKOK, 8 March 2011 (NNT) – The Royal Thai Air Force has dispatched aircraft to perform rainmaking operations in drought-affected provinces across the country.

Air Force Commander-in-Chief Air Chief Marshal Ittiporn Suppawong presided over the ceremony to release aircraft of the royal rainmaking unit at Squadron 601, Wing 6, Don Muang Air Force Base. In cooperation with the Bureau of Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the fleet will conduct cloud seeding operations in provinces with severe dry conditions in a bid to alleviate the residents’ suffering.
