Thai Court Dismisses Defamation Suit by Thaksin’s Ex-wife

The Appeals Court has upheld the Criminal Court’s decision to dismiss the defamation suit filed by the ex-wife of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra against the chairman of the now-defunct Assets Examination Committee.

The ex-wife of the former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, Khunying Pojaman Na Pombejra, had filed a malfeasance suit against the chairman of the Assets Examination Committee, or AEC, Nam Yimyam.

She claimed from January 10 to 28, 2007, Nam had given interviews with the press, accusing her and her former husband of causing damages to the state in their purchase of a plot of land on Ratchadapisek Road from the Financial Institutions Development Fund, or FIDF, by claiming that they had forced the FIDF to accept their bid for the land.
