About 200 male prisoners staged a noisy protest inside the Lop Buri prison, destroyed some property, and threatened to set fires on Thursday, but the situation was eventually brought under control, Corrections Department deputy director-general Thanis Sriyaphan said.
Mr Thanis said the protest began shortly before noon and was led by about 50 inmates who were transferred from Ayutthaya prison after they were found to have smuggled mobile phones into the prison.
The inmates, some armed with wood staves and iron bars, made piles of wood and grass and threatened to set fire on them.
