Bangkok: Red Shirts gather at Democracy Monument

Red Shirts gather at Democracy Monument to commemorate losses in political turmoil

BANGKOK, Oct 10 – Supporters of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) on Sunday began their rally by assembling at Saladaeng intersection and later moved to the Democracy Monument to light 20,000 red candles as a memorial gesture for those killed during the April-May protests.

Today’s Red Shirt activities were led by Sombat Boonngamanong, a leading activist of the Red Sunday group.

The demonstrators offered alms to Buddhist monks in memory of the slain army officer and to others killed in the area.
