BANGKOK, 27 September 2010 (NNT) – The number of road accidents caused by public buses has increased to almost 200 in the first eight months of 2010, with over 100 fatalities and nearly 2,000 injuries.

According to Land Transport Department Director-General Chairat Sanguansue, 186 road accidents were reported in the first eight months of this year, from January to August 2010. The accidents killed 148 and injured 1,778 people altogether. Public buses accounted for most of the accidents.

85% of the accidents caused by the public buses were due to careless drivers, while the rest were attributed to the poor condition of the buses.
