Can’t speak Thai? Don’t worry!

Perhaps one of the most intimidating thing about travelling to a new country is not being able to speak the language. Although travelling to Thailand is daunting in this respect, one website has a great service to help out the non-speaking Thais as they negotiate the wonders of South East Asia.

The Guide to Thailand has a number of resources for travellers planning or making trips to visit the land formerly known as Siam. But especially for those who worry about being able to communicate, their Phrase Wizard allows you to print out phrases in English and in Thai script to carry with you on your travels. Not only will it allow you to communicate in the case of medical emergencies and generic hotel situations, but it may just be the peace of mind you need to get on the phone and book your next trip.

The Phrase Wizard allows you to chose which cards are necessary and then provides you with the appropriate image file to download and print from your computer. You can laminate the card and keep in your wallet or just print out a copy for your journal and throw it in with the maps in your bag.

Some examples from the medical section include: I need to go to a hospital, I need to go to the police. I have lost all my money, and I have a heart condition.

The website also has printable cards for shopping, transportation, food, accommodation and other situations.

Then you don’t have to worry about not speaking Thai quite so much! Unless, of course, the person you are trying to communicate with can’t read…
