Russian Teen Caught Vandalizing Pattaya Landmark, Faces Strict Penalties

Pattaya – A 16-year-old Russian national was arrested in the early hours of July 17, 2025, after defacing the Bali Hai Pier Overpass with spray paint. The suspect, identified only as Mr. D., was caught red-handed by a vigilant Pattaya City Special Affairs Unit officer while tagging the public structure.

Authorities confiscated six cans of spray paint and a Yamaha Aerox motorcycle believed to have been used in the act. Despite the teenager’s minor status, Pattaya officials emphasized that no leniency would be shown for such offenses. He has been charged under Thailand’s Cleanliness and Orderliness Act, which carries fines of up to 10,000 baht. As part of the punishment, both the suspect and his legal guardians have been ordered to personally clean the vandalized overpass.

Pattaya City issued a firm statement following the arrest: “This is not artistic expression—it’s destruction of public property! Anyone considering similar acts should think twice, as we will take decisive legal action.” The crackdown underscores the city’s zero-tolerance stance against vandalism, particularly in high-traffic tourist areas.

The incident has sparked discussions about tourist behavior and the enforcement of public decorum laws in popular destinations like Pattaya, where authorities are increasingly vigilant against property damage.
