Thailand struggles with rising COVID cases, with more than 12,000 infections per day
BANGKOK – Thailand is confronting a dangerous resurgence of Covid-19, with health authorities reporting 12,181 new cases in a single day, marking one of the highest daily spikes since the pandemic began. The Department of Disease Control (DDC) confirmed the alarming figures on Saturday, pushing the nation’s cumulative case count to 471,781.

The latest data also revealed three additional fatalities, bringing Thailand’s official Covid-19 death toll to 151. The sharp rise in infections has prompted urgent calls from health officials for stricter adherence to preventive measures, including mask-wearing, social distancing, and accelerated vaccination efforts.
Bangkok remains the hardest-hit region, recording 3,955 new infections—the highest among all provinces. Other major hotspots include Chiang Mai (533 cases), Nakhon Ratchasima (448), Chon Buri (417), and Nonthaburi (264). Authorities have ramped up targeted testing, contact tracing, and isolation protocols in these areas to contain the outbreak.
