Patong, Phuket – A 59-year-old Australian tourist tragically died early Thursday morning after falling from his third-floor hotel balcony in Patong, with authorities suspecting alcohol may have played a role in the fatal accident.

The incident occurred around 3:00 AM on May 1, just hours before the man—identified only as Mr. C.—and his wife were due to check out. Witnesses reported hearing a loud crash before discovering the victim unconscious and barely breathing on the ground below.

According to police, Mr. C. and his wife had spent the evening drinking at Patong Beach bars before returning to their hotel. His wife stated that he appeared visibly unsteady while climbing the stairs ahead of her. Moments later, she allegedly saw him lose his balance and topple backward over the railing.

Emergency responders performed CPR at the scene, but Mr. C. succumbed to his injuries at Patong Hospital. Investigators noted he was found shirtless, wearing only black shorts, with no immediate signs of foul play.

While intoxication is suspected, authorities are reviewing hotel CCTV footage and witness statements to confirm the exact circumstances. The Australian Embassy has been notified, and the victim’s family is receiving consular assistance.
