British Man Detained After Violent Spree Leaves Phuket Residents in Shock
A 39-year-old British national identified only as Mr. G. has been arrested by Phuket Immigration police following a chaotic and violent rampage across the island on Thursday, April 4. The suspect allegedly carried out a string of aggressive acts, including breaking into a convenience store, attempting motorcycle theft, and assaulting both a shop owner and a child in separate incidents.

The disturbing chain of events began around 7:05 AM when the suspect parked a stolen motorcycle outside a local shop in Thalang. According to 51-year-old shop owner, the man—who appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol—attempted to forcibly pry open the seat of a three-wheeled motorcycle parked outside. When unsuccessful, he stormed into the shop’s kitchen, grabbed a knife, and tried cutting wires to remove the seat.
“He wouldn’t listen when I tried to stop him,” Warin recounted. “He attacked me and even threw a bottle of oil at me before running off.”
The situation escalated further when the suspect fled into a nearby alley, where he allegedly knocked a child off a moving motorcycle being ridden by their mother, leaving the young victim injured. Witnesses described him as aggressive and erratic, with some speculating he may have been suffering from a mental health crisis or substance-induced psychosis.

Police later confirmed that the motorcycle the suspect had been riding was stolen from the Saku Police Station area, adding a potential theft charge to his growing list of offenses. Immigration officers took him into custody but noted that communication has been difficult due to his unstable mental state. He is currently being held in a controlled environment before formal questioning and possible transfer to Thalang Police Station to face criminal charges.
The incident has sparked concerns among local residents and expats alike, with many calling for tighter scrutiny of foreign nationals with behavioral issues and better security measures in tourist-heavy areas. Authorities have assured the public that they are taking the matter seriously and will pursue all legal avenues to ensure justice is served.

As investigations continue, Phuket officials are also reviewing whether the suspect had any prior incidents or warrants, raising questions about how such erratic behavior went unchecked before Thursday’s violent outburst.
