The incident unfolded on Wednesday evening, February 19th, in front of the bustling Bay Walk Market along Beach Road in South Pattaya, drawing a swift response from local residents, motorcycle taxi drivers, and authorities. Some passersby indicated that the intoxicated Indian was with a group of other Indian tourists.

The Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation Rescue Unit’s radio center received an urgent call reporting a physical altercation between a Thai individual and two foreign nationals, with injuries sustained on both sides. Rescue teams rushed to the scene to find a tense situation already in progress. Witnesses reported that an Indian man and a fellow, whose identity has not yet been released, appeared heavily intoxicated and had allegedly attempted to sexually assault a Thai woman near the market. When a local taxi driver intervened, the suspects reportedly turned violent, injuring the driver and sparking outrage among bystanders.

Enraged by the incident, a group of local residents and motorcycle taxi drivers chased and detained one of the suspects, leading to a brawl that escalated the chaos. Rescue workers arrived to find the Indian men subdued by the crowd, bearing visible injuries from the confrontation. The injured Thai resident was also attended to, though the extent of their injuries remains undisclosed. A motorist told The Nation newspaper that the two men scratched his car as they ran and broke the left side rearview mirror.

Pattaya Police quickly intervened, taking the suspect into custody and transporting him to the Pattaya City Police Station for questioning. Authorities confirmed that the man faces multiple charges, including sexual assault, assault causing bodily harm, and public intoxication. The swift actions of the locals in detaining the suspect were noted, though police urged residents to avoid taking justice into their own hands to prevent further escalation.

The incident has reignited discussions about tourist behavior in Pattaya, a city known for its vibrant nightlife and heavy influx of international visitors. Witnesses described the scene as “shocking” and “unsettling,” with one onlooker telling reporters, “It happened so fast—people were angry and just wanted to protect the woman.” The Bay Walk Market, typically a lively spot for locals and tourists alike, became a backdrop to the unsettling event, leaving many shaken.

Police are continuing their investigation, reviewing CCTV footage from the area to piece together the sequence of events. The suspect remains in custody as authorities determine the full scope of the charges. Meanwhile, the Thai woman allegedly assaulted and the injured resident are receiving support, though officials have not released further details about their conditions.
