 Undocumented Bangladeshis in India surge 60 % in 15 Years

The Indian Government admitted in Parliament that 20 million Bangladeshi migrants may be staying clandestinely in India and that many could pose a grave security threat. Estimates of undocumented Bangladeshis living in India have risen from 12 million in 2001 to the present level.

New Delhi (Sputnik) – “As per available inputs, there are around 20 million illegal Bangladeshi migrants staying in India,” junior Home Minister, Kiren Rijiju told Communist MP Jharna Das Baidya during Question Hour in Parliament.

“There are reports of Bangladeshi nationals having entered the country without valid travel documents. Since entry of such Bangladeshi nationals into the country is clandestine and surreptitious, it is not possible to have accurate data of such Bangladeshi nationals living in various parts of the country,” he acknowledged.
