Prawit welcomes politics-free academic discussions

BANGKOK, Sept 22 — In response to academics’ calls for the free expression of opinions in discussions, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan said what was legal could be done.

“The NCPO (National Council for Peace and Order) would like to create national reconciliation first. If they are completely academic and free of politics, they can be organized. Any discussion plan will be proposed for the NCPO’s approval,” Gen Prawit said before chairing a meeting of the Defence Council today. It is his first chairmanship at the Defence Council after being appointed as defence minister.
