Cabinet of Thailand approves emergency budget for unpaid farmers

BANGKOK, 11 February 2014 (NNT) – The cabinet has approved emergency payments for grain sold in the rice-pledging scheme to the amount of 712 million baht.

The Commerce Ministry proposed the emergency measure to pay farmers participating in the pledging scheme for the 2012/2013 harvest. Nearly 4,000 households that pledged over 40,000 tons of rice have not yet been paid.
