Southern Thailand braces for heavy rains this week

BANGKOK, 19 November 2013 (NNT) – The Meteorological Department warned southern provinces to brace for heavy rains and possible floods this week.

Local meteorological units in Songkhla said a low pressure cell is heading to Malaysia and will bring torrential rain to coastal provinces including Surat Thani, Songkhla and Phatthalung from Tuesday until Thursday.

Southernmost provinces such as Narathiwat and Pattani are also gearing up for heavy rains as the storm is forecasted to lash the region at the end of this week. Residents in low-lying areas have been told to closely monitor the situation and all shipping should proceed with caution.
