BANGKOK, 22 May 2012 (NNT) – The Board of Directors of Thai Airways International, on Monday, resolved to terminate the employment contract of the company’s President, Mr. Piyasvasti Amranand, who has been in office since October 2009.
THAI Board Chairman Ampon Kittiampon announced the discharge of Mr. Piyasvasti from the position of president, reasoning that his failure to communicate with the board of directors has led to a disunity in carrying out the company’s marketing strategies.
In line with the conditions of his employment contract, Mr. Piyasvasti has been informed of his dismissal one month in advance. Given his early termination, he will receive a compensation package amounting to six months’ salary.
Believing his dismissal to be related to politics or internal corruption, Mr. Piyasvasti is calling for a clarification from the board. He added that he would take legal action if the cause of his dismissal is found to be damaging to his reputation.
The THAI Board, headed by Mr. Ampon, selected Mr. Piyasvasti as President of Thai Airways International on 18 June 2009. He assumed the post of company President on 19 October 2009, and has been at the company’s lead for 2 years 7 months.
Executive Vice President for Strategies and Business Development Chokchai Panyayong has been appointed as acting president. The selection process for a new president is expected to begin within the next 2-3 months.
