Yingluck joins Songkran celebrations in Chiang Mai

CHIANG MAI, 13 April 2012 (NNT) – Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra took part in an alms giving ceremony this morning in Chiang Mai province as part of the Songkran celebrations believed to bring good luck and prosperity in the new year.

The alms giving ceremony was held at Chiang Mai’s Tha Phae Gate. The Prime Minister was joined by the governor of Chiang Mai, the Commerce Minister, the Ministers to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Chiang Mai Mayor, and the Chairman of the Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organisation.

Thai and foreign tourists dressed in traditional Lanna costumes also participated in this auspicious event earlier today. Ms. Yingluck said she felt exhilarated with the warm welcome upon her arrival. She conveyed her best wishes to all Thai people on this special occasion and urged everyone to keep the tradition alive into the future.
