Thai Government starts paying political victims compensation in April

BANGKOK, March 19 – The government will begin compensation payments late next month for political victims or families of those who lost their lives in political violence between 2005 and 2010, Prime Minister’s Office Permanent Secretary Thongthong Chantarangsu said here on Monday.

Mr Thongthong, in his capacity as head of the sub-panel responsible for considering remedies for victims of the political protests, said that so far this month 2,129 people applied for compensation. Among whom were family members of 187 political victims who lost their lives, 70 were disabled and 91 lost their vital organs.
