Thai PM to have audience with HM the King to report on water resource management plan

BANGKOK, 24 February 2012 (NNT) – Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will have an audience with His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej this evening to report on the government’s water management plans.

Ms. Yingluck is expected to inform His Majesty the King about both the short and long term water management plans. On the short term measures, the Prime Minister said all provincial governors have been instructed to study the areas where the flood prevention schemes will be implemented, particularly the elevation of roads which requires close cooperation with the Ministry of Transport.

She said the implementation of those plans will be based on the work laid down by the Strategic Committee for Water Resource Management (SCWRM). Reforestation will also be expedited in watershed areas. She added that the construction of flood ways will facilitate natural water flows.
