BANGKOK, 6 February 2012 (NNT) – China has expressed interest in collaborating financially with Thailand on the construction of a high-speed train as well as the development of alternative energy.
Chair of the Strategic Committee for Reconstruction and Future Development (SCRF) Veerapong Ramangkura stated that during his discussion with the Chinese Ambassador to Thailand, the diplomat expressed enthusiasm on his country’s behalf to invest in Thailand’s infrastructure projects. One of them, in particular, is the construction of high-speed rail, which will connect the South of China to Laos, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.
Meanwhile, China also agreed to support Thailand in the development of electricity, alternative energy and fuel. However, Mr. Veerapong expressed his personal concern that these plans might face a great number of setbacks, such as opposition from NGOs.
Additionally, the committee chairman took this opportunity to present short, medium and long-term plans of the SCRF and the Strategic Committee for Water Resources Management (SCWRM) as well as the country’s future development projects to the Chinese Ambassador.
