4 provinces declared emergency disaster zones: DDPM
BANGKOK, 4 January 2012 (NNT) – A number of provinces in the North and the Northeast of Thailand have been hit by drought and declared disaster zones.
Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) Director-General Vibe Sanguanpong said on Friday that, currently, there are 4 provinces declared disaster zones because of severe drought.
Three of the drought-hit provinces are in the North, including Kamphaeng Phet, Lamphun and Sukhothai, where a total of 37 districts fall victim to the drought.
In the Northeast, 14 districts in Loei Province were also affected by the dry season.
Mr. Viboon said that people who are in need of assistance can contact DDPM or its nearest provincial offices, or call the Hotline number of 1784, around the clock.
